zocAALo’s objectives are twofold: 1) to facilitate the widespread uptake of AAL apps across Europe, overcoming some of the barriers that are difficulting to leave behind the overall piloting phase we are involved in, establishing a direct, trustable, accessible and easy-to-use channel between demand (end-users) and offer (developers), and 2) to provide validated tools to AAL developers’ community to improve efficiency and synergetic development of apps. ZocAALo will then develop: a) a marketplace for accessible, usable and easy-to-use apps targeting elderly people and their caregivers. Only apps that will be certified against the criteria defined within the project will be uploaded in the marketplace, b) a launcher that can be customized and personalized including basic apps to cover different needs of elderly users (telemonitoring, videoconferencing, cognitive estimulation, reminders etc.), c) a middleware for IoT integration (sensors, wearable devices, actuators), d) style guides, basic code samples and SDK for developers Using an iterative methodology, the proposed platform and tools will be validated in Spain, Italy and Switzerland by means of involving primary and secondary end users (15-20 in each site) as well as external developers (15 total Europe wide) all along the project. The service will be promoted to the end-users mainly through intermediaries (caregiver organisations, public municipalities, insurance companies). The basic business model will have three product lines distributed via different distribution channels: 1) marketplace for elderly (payment for downloaded apps, annual subscription of developers, payment for systems “ready to use”- license fees on a per-user basis), 2) on demand elderly services (solution-based payment) and 3) pre-installation in mobile devices. zocAALo will be commertially available within 12 months after project close-out.
