Project: Indoor and outdoor NITICSplus solution for dementia challenges
Acronym | IONIS (Reference Number: aal-call-2016-074) |
Duration | 01/10/2017 - 01/04/2020 |
Project Topic | IONIS brings together technologies and services to build a user-centred modular ICT-based platform that offers a wide range of specific solutions to problems and difficulties that people with dementia are confronting. The IONIS solution can compensate in an adaptive way for mild to moderate dementia associated deficiencies such as memory problems and cognitive decline. By providing continuous support to people with dementia when they are at home (indoor area) or outside (outdoor area), the IONIS system improves their independence, significantly enhance their individual sense of confidence, security and safety and increase their wellbeing and the one of their communities. Moreover, caregivers will be able to benefit from the IONIS platform capabilities and to exploit the gathered health information (health monitoring and alerting, mobility pattern indicative of disease progression and other age related problems, sleep quality supervision) in order to intervene adequately and timely. Medical personnel can prescribe suited treatment when correlating the caretaker‘s medical records with level of exercise, quality of sleep, amount of wandering etc. Also, the appropriate treatment, exercise, physical therapy, relaying on this data, will help the medical personal to accurately implement an individual therapy. IONIS also involves service providers (social services, insurance companies, rehabilitation centers) who can obtain valuable information regarding behavioral patterns and needs of people with dementia and their caregivers in order to improve the services they offer to them, which will reduce stress and burden for informal caregivers through timely alerts issued by the IONIS platform or triggered by users. Extensive trials and piloting involving significant number of end-users will be performed to both develop and validate the IONIS solution. The envisaged IONIS business model will pave the route to quick and efficient market exploitation for the IONIS platform. |
