Project: Living well with Anne
Acronym | Living well (Reference Number: aal-call-2016-102) |
Duration | 01/06/2017 - 01/06/2020 |
Project Topic | Wouldn’t it be nice if we all had a personal assistant that could just be there for us if we need her. She would come to know us so well that, when we grow older and start to forget things, she could help us, warn us, contacts our loved ones if necessary give us advise? This project will build such an assistant specifically aimed at people with dementia. Anne is a virtual personal assistant who can understand speech (multi lingual speech recognition) and talk (multi lingual speech synthesis), is smart (Artificial Intelligence) and can support the elderly in many aspects of daily life: communication with the outside world, keeping track of items on the personal calendar, daily structure, simple video calling, medication and relaxation. Anne is a novel and innovative approach to dealing with anxiety and related psychological and cognitive impairments of people with dementia; she will dynamically measure the interaction of users (speech analysis, cognitive feedback loop, etc.) to figure out if these impairments increase – and if so she can adapt herself to it so she becomes more easy to use. As an example; in a very late stage of dementia she may just play some soft music for the user and comfort with slower speech and few but well-chosen words. We believe that with Anne we can significantly improve the quality of life of people with dementia. We are starting out with an already working prototype, rely on standard protocols, and being part of a previous AAL project – Anne has already been tested thoroughly by elderly in the real world –significantly reduces risk in our time to market and widens market opportunities. End users (organisation) are our main focus in this project – testing with them, listening to them, and constant rolling out of new features to provide up to date services is extremely important to us. Our milestones, planning and development deliverables are planned in such a way that we start out early with giving end users a first version. |
