Project: Validation of software development and analysis tools using TraCIM
New guidelines will enable developers to validate the performance of measurement software online Models of physical systems typically involve a set of algebraic or partial differential equations - as a consequence, many areas of modern metrology rely heavily on computation. Similarly to the way calibration standards are used to validate the performance of conventional metrology hardware, developers of metrology software and programming tools also need the capability to validate their products, to ensure they undertake the tasks for which they are intended and perform as expected. Increasingly, developers are looking to organisations such as National Measurement Institutes to provide independent validation of software and increase the confidence of both the developer and its users. To meet this demand, EMRP project NEW06 TraCIM developed a complete ICT infrastructure which allows online validation of software, with a primary focus on software developed by manufacturers of coordinate measuring machines. This project will establish guidelines on how software developers, such as primary supporter National Instruments, and users can apply the TraCIM system to validate their tools and products.
