Project: Decision-support environment for planning and integrating multi-energy networks and low-carbon resources in cities
The global objective of the project reads twofold: • Developing an integrated decision-support environment for city planners and energy providers to improve efficiency and resilience of energy supply infrastructures, focusing on deployment, extension and retrofitting; • Implementing the decision-support platform and embedded tools in selected cities, for local utilities and city administrations, focusing on thermal and electrical networks linked to low-carbon resources. IntegrCiTy aims at providing a tool-box for evaluating interoperability and synergies among existing and future energy infrastructures components, through integrated modelling and multi-network simulation. Backbone of the toolbox is a co-simulation platform allowing model interaction and data exchange to dynamically link energy demand with supply. The open source based software architecture will allow linking own models/tools to the platform, ensuring great flexibility in extending the toolbox for future requirements. The IntegrCiTy decision-support environment will serve city planners and energy utilities, as well as local stakeholders aiming at thorough understanding of urban energy systems, including business models and regulatory policies, though appropriate energy and environmental indicators. Recoverable waste will be also integrated as renewable resource like energy demand of electric vehicles. The spatially explicit approach considers land-use conflicts, settlement density and network extent evaluation as urgently required in densely-built urban zones.
