Project: Towards a personalized medicine approach to psychological treatment for psychosis
Acronym | PERMEPSY (Reference Number: ERAPERMED2022-292) |
Duration | 01/05/2023 - 30/04/2026 |
Project Topic | Despite the efficacy of psychological interventions in people with psychosis few patients receive them. Moreover, studies aiming to characterise the patient phenotype in relation of those responding to psychological treatments are lacking. PERMEPSY poses the challenge of integrating new technologies (harmonization, Machine Learning –ML-, technological platforms) for providing a personalized psychological treatment based on Metacognitive Training (MCT). The aims are:a) to identify the characteristics of patients responding to MCT using a stratification strategy based on ML applied to multimodal retrospective databases; b) to develop a prototype platform to personalize the MCT treatment based on the results of ML; c) to perform a prospective pilot clinical trial as a proof of concept for validating the prototype platform for Personalized MCT (P-MCT); d) to include the user’s perspective along the project. PERMEPSY includes 3 modules of the ERA PerMed call: clinical research, enabling technology towards application in healthcare and ethical and legal issues, divided in 2 phases. The first phase is based on systematic reviews and the harmonization of data (sociodemographic, clinical, cognitive and meta-cognitive, and biomarkers) of 500 patients from clinical partners and analyse them with ML techniques(WP1 and WP2). A prototype platform will be developed to design P-MCT(WP3). The second phase will validate the previous findings in a prospective pilot clinical trial study randomizing 252 patients to P-MCT or classical MCT, in 5 countries: Poland, Germany, France, Chile and Spain. Moreover, users’ perspectives will be assessed by focus groups(WP4). Legal and ethical issues(WP5), a communication plan(WP6) and coordination of the project are also described(WP7). The overall objective is to develop an open platform for clinicians to predict the response to MCT and recommend P-MCT treatment, helping them in decision-taking tasks regarding psychological treatment in psychosis. |
