Project: Innovating GPCR Drug Discovery with Protein Engineering and Biophysics
We will develop powerful methods to generate new medicines targeting G-protein coupled receptors, which are important drug targets. We will utilize the CHESS technology of UZH where large quantities of stable, functional GPCRs are produced in E. coli. ZoBio will develop methods to 1) find drug fragments that bind the stabilized receptors at a selected site and elicit a desired response and 2) rapidly determine where and how these fragments bind to the GPCR using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.
