Project: Towards a treatment for hearing loss: validation of novel drugs in new translational animal models
Hearing loss poses a huge socio-economic burden (Fig 1): there is no cure and drug development is hampered by a lack of translational models. We will develop clinically relevant ex vivo and in vivo animal models and provide solid preclinical data based on these models for two drug candidates for treatment of hearing loss (Fig 2, Table 1). Hearing loss is a heterogeneous disease and these models are needed to clarify response mechanisms that will guide clinical trials and regulatory approval.
