Project: A new marker for differentiating between bacterial and viral infections

Project Topic	We will optimize, verify and validate a new plasma calprotectin assay (P-CALPRO) that can identify bacterial infection in the blood within 10 minutes of sampling. The assay will also differentiate between viral and bacterial infection. Clinical trials have shown that P-CALPRO has a higher specificity for bacterial infections than other markers (CRP, procalcitonin, HNL/NGAL). This will be confirmed by further trials as part of this project.
