Project: Replacing Endangered Tropical Woods in Musical Instruments
Acronym | RETWood (Reference Number: 113335) |
Duration | 01/11/2019 - 03/11/2022 |
Project Topic | We aim to replace endangered tropical woods in musical instruments with an innovative technical wood material (Sonowood) derived from European wood species. Tropical woods are used for key components of bowed string instruments like violins, cellos, etc. Sonowood has proven to meet the requirements, but in order to enter the mass market of musical instruments we need to upscale from the current single-piece production by hand to an automated CNC-machining process while maintaining quality. |
