Project: Crop & Livestock Intelligent Integrated Solution for Monitoring, Control and Marketability of Agribusiness Data and Resources
Introduction_x000D_Agriculture and forestry industries are undergoing fundamental technological modifications and changes. Developments in automated processes, real-time guidance, vision systems, smart variable rate technologies and methodology adaptation restructure farming community procedures and equipment/machinery manufacturing. The potential yield and quality improvements from adopting precision farming routines and farm management information systems (FMIS) is dramatic. Further developments are naturally facing critical constraints, bottlenecks and challenges that impede attaining their full potential. A systematically inherent limiting factor is the lack connectivity and non-interoperability of the multiple systems, data formats and mix of standards. The resulting collaboration and rationalization optimization dictates increase system complexities reduce efficiencies, causes, costs over runs – the list is unfortunately long and familiar._x000D__x000D_Goals_x000D_¿ Provide a platform for aiding interoperability between _x000D_(a ) i) Agriculture autonomous systems; and ii) external IT systems comprising Human Machine Interface (HMIs) and Information Management Systems, _x000D_(b) enhanced data connectivity and transfer between i) and ii) in (a) and _x000D_(c) coherence amongst agriculture systems, equipment and processes for stakeholders supply chain comprising farmers, transport and logistics service providers, retailers and wholesalers of agricultural products and related processes and consumers_x000D_¿To develop tools for effective use and access to agricultural data resources by especially farmers and the other stakeholders through advanced HMI and Knowledge Management technologies._x000D_¿ Apply standardized data formats for improved utilization of agriculture information sources and research data._x000D_¿ A platform providing standards for 3rd party developers for innovative agricultural products and services.¿ Access to agricultural marketing information, and other resources across national borders, _x000D_¿ To serve as a tool for European-wide professional networking, for sharing experiences and best practices, including communication with staff, suppliers, retailers, consultants, customers and more_x000D_¿ To improve real-time and on-site guidance and automatic tracking of processes and activities and tracing of agricultural products from cradle to grave._x000D__x000D_Technical Objective_x000D_The overall technological objective is the development and demonstration of a pre-commercial intelligent integrated solution prototype based on the implementation of the ua-OPC-UA model comprising four CO components : _x000D_(1) an input-output link (Network bridge-router gateway module), _x000D_(2) an information management platform (IoT cloud-enabled platform), _x000D_(3) a KM platform with corresponding algorithms and tools for signal/multimedia processing, automation and control and _x000D_(4) a mobile automation HMI device that allow advanced continuous real-time guidance and integrated processing and control. _x000D__x000D_The project will encompass the following objectives:_x000D_¿ Implementation of IoT cloud-enabled Agribusiness Intelligent Information Management System, providing a platform, services and subsystems with corresponding middleware, and security and privacy architecture for process automation, data management, monitoring and control. _x000D_¿ Development of an input-output gateway module based on the process automation OPC UA model specification for unified automation, data transfer and network communication protocols/components, including wireless standards for both short-medium and long range._x000D_¿ Development of Human Machine Interface (HMI) demonstrator based on off-the-shelf (COTS) HMI hand-held devices (e.g. smart phone, tablets, etc) and the implementation of HMI end-users' application services. _x000D_¿ Development of novel sustainable intelligent Knowledge Management (KM) subsystem which includes a data resource pool and visual analytic service platform, and uses cloud management facilities for collecting, combining, handling and making accessible the currently scattered data and resources for optimal interpretation and adaptation to agriculture._x000D_¿ Implementation of fusion algorithms and network propagation models for heterogeneous sensor networks and wireless sensor networks including the corresponding APIs, signal/data analysis and visualization

Project Topic

The overall CALIS integrated system will be designed to interact with field equipment and systems, and networks connected to both stationary and mobile devices such as PLCs, PCs and HMIs. This will be facilitated by making them accessible with other hand-held/mobile devices such as smartphones.
