Project: High Towards a fast biobased discovery and screening of new drugs targeting neoplasicactivity
The project DISC-SCREEN has been designed for the integration of several high throughput techniques for the discovery of new drug candidates targeting, during the scope of this project, neoplasic related diseases. However, the new techniques developed will constituted a drug discovery platform to be employed in any other disease._x000D__x000D_DISC-SCREEN, then, involves the Integration of bioinformatics, gene expression, genomics, proteomics and metabolomics to develop groundbreaking technologies for the development of a high throughput platform in order to carry out a fast the discovery and screening of new molecular entities._x000D__x000D_The research focused on the discovery of new drugs requires tools designed to manipulate a great number of samples for reaching the greatest possibilities to obtain biologically active compounds. In this subject, the development of high throughput tools is seen as a keystone in the pharmaceutical research. In this project it is proposed to develop different integrated high throughput tools in a multidisciplinary project and validate its use in a therapeutic area of high social interest such as cancer._x000D__x000D_The proposed herein is a combination of high throughput biotech synthesis, high throughput screening and high throughput analysis. The aim of the present proposal is to carry out an integrated high-throughput discovery project. This new High Throughput Discovery Platform will allow a breakthrough in the industrial biotechnology sector allowing a novel biobased drug discovery-screening methodology. Medicine and pharmaceutical industry will also be benefit by this project since it will allow the discovery of new drugs, which will represent new treatments always needed in the fight against cancer._x000D__x000D_As mentioned before, objective of this project is the creation of this high throughput platform. This CO objective can be divided, then, in the following objectives:_x000D__x000D_1. Development of tools able to prepare a minimum of 700-800 new compounds a year by biotechnological tools._x000D_2. Development of a technique able to screen 800-900 new compounds towards antineoplasic activity._x000D_3. Development of a bioinformatic tools towards in silico high throughput screening_x000D__x000D_At the end of the project we will have libraries of compounds including some hits with antineoplasic activity ready to be transfered to a pharmaceutical industry, always interested in this type of products. However, the most important goal will be the multidisciplinary platform developed during the project ready to develop new drug candidates for different diseases.
