Project: SAN Switch based virtualization appliance platform development with De-Duplication during storage replication
1) Project Overview_x000D_ _x000D_ This R&D Project is to develop "SAN Switch based virtualization appliance platform development with De-Duplication during storage replication” with a joint R&D cooperation among Si4U Co.,Ltd, Lortu Software, S.L and Hagit DesignOne_x000D_ _x000D_ Si4U Co.,Ltd in Korea is in charge of both Appliance system development and Replication engine development and has many technical R&D background in the storage and replication solution development_x000D_ _x000D_ Lortu Software, S.L in Spain is in charge of De-duplication engine development and has also many R&D background in the backup solution development. Especially, Lortu Software, S.L has key necessary technology to develop the De-duplication engine which is key emerging solution in the backup and VTL area._x000D_ _x000D_ Hagit DesignOne in Israel is in charge of ASIC Chipset development for SAN protocol with table of De-Duplication engine and has also many R&D background in the SAN Protocol related development. Especially, Hagit DesignOne has key necessary technology to develop the SAN protocol chipset that enable the replication and De-duplication under the SAN Switch environent_x000D_ _x000D__x000D_2) Project Background_x000D_ _x000D_There are three kinds of method for the storage virtualization scheme, such as server based, appliance based and storage based._x000D_ _x000D_In the server based virtualization area, Veritas and VM Ware are the key player. _x000D_But, the CO technical and business drawback of this method is the price is too expansive, because whenever server expansion, we need to additional software also on the server_x000D_ _x000D_In the storage based virtualization area, EMC and Hitachi are the key player._x000D_But, the CO technical drawback of this methis is that they only supports Hitachi or EMS solution, meaning that they do not support interface with 3rd party storage._x000D_ _x000D_In the appliance based virtualization area, Falconstor and DataCore are the key player._x000D_But, the CO drawback of this method is that they are too expansive and if we increase the servers that would be interfaced, the software price is also increased automatically._x000D_ _x000D_According to market trend analysis agency, such as IDC and Gartner, Virtualization solution is very popular and customer’s demand for this would be increasing sharply soon._x000D_ _x000D_According to Gartner, if we arrive at the Cloud computing environment soon, the key product and key technology is virtualization solution._x000D_ _x000D_Right now, Brocade only has a SAN Switch based Virtualization platform. Due to their monopoly in the market, their system price is very expansive._x000D_ _x000D_So, if we develop the SAN Switch based Virtualization Platform, we can solve all of these, such as we can interface any 3rd party server and 3rd party storage even if we increase the number of server or storage that would be interfaced with our solution, we do not need to add any additional price to the customer._x000D_ _x000D_Our product would be targeted for both SAN market and virtualization area at the same time._x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_3) Project Period_x000D_ _x000D_ This project would be three period, such as: _x000D_ - 1st year : for COly clarifying the system architecture and module interface among korea, Israel and Spain and doing all the required research._x000D_ _x000D_ - 2nd year : for making proto-type system and proceding the 1st interface test among participants. _x000D_ _x000D_ - 3rd year : for making the final version system._x000D__x000D_
