Project: Tailored NAVigator for collaborative services in RURAL areas
While new forms of rural tourism are becoming more and more popular nowadays as a leisure activity across Europe, related outdoors activities including cycling, hiking, rambling, trekking, etc, have seen increased their practise and popularity._x000D__x000D_Thus, for some regions, tourism is the CO source of income, generating business and employment and also a way to share the culture and history with visitors; it is an activity that empowers the preservation of the region itself. In the same way, many tourists are willing to get additional information from the regions related to their own interest and preferences – history, museums, ruins, nature, etc -. _x000D__x000D_In this context, GPS devices for this kind of tourism and geo-oriented services have an important impact in the market, since tourists are provided with real-time information about the region they are visiting, and which is matching with their interests and preferences ._x000D__x000D_Taking into account that participation in social networks continues to grow seemingly without bounds as more people seek to connect, share and collaborate, such innovative location based services will significantly enrich user presence and interaction, by offering meaningful links between personal mobile experiences, the physical surrounding and virtual information spaces, including public and commercially available multimedia contents, and knowledge from social networks._x000D__x000D_Thus, NavRural project aims to apply cutting edge technologies in fields of localization, social web 2.0 and 3.0 and augmented reality to prototype an innovative GPS/Galileo-based navigator that provides advanced services including navigation, routes planning and exchange and sharing of information and advices from other users when practicing sports in rural environments. In addition, since the market of this kind of adventure and rural tourism is growing, NavRural will also define the parameters to model the suitable bike for those rural environments and user’s expectations._x000D__x000D_NAVRURAL project will offer:_x000D__x000D_- Prototype of a “bike’s on-board navigator” _x000D__x000D_- Implementation of advanced services based on localization and user identification to be offered through such device_x000D__x000D_- A platform that supplies real time contents from both official tourism sites and those generated by other users during the three CO stages of a trip:_x000D__x000D_o Before: helping in the planning of cycling or hiking routes by sharing information about the environment, interest points or destination by sharing users generated information _x000D__x000D_o During the trip: updating the available information with real time changes (e.g. weather changes), generating new contents, assessing and sharing experiences, acceding to destiny or route related information or real time finding and connecting other tourists, hikers or cyclists offering them complementary services as real time messaging._x000D__x000D_o After: accessing, managing, storing and sharing trip related contents as photographs, multimedia or stored contents or route information helping other tourists in their trip or planning. _x000D_
