Project: Heat and and Drug Delivery nanosystem with active tumor targeting features
The aim of this project is the development of magnetothermally-trigered drug delivery systems combining superparamagnetic nanoparticles with thermally-activated materials (lower critical solution temperature polymers (LCST)) and active tumor-specific molecular targeting features. The final aim of the project is the future use of the developed nanosystems to treat tumoral tissues of large blood perfusion (i.e. large heat losses), such as those located in the kidney, liver, etc. To accomplished the target set in the project the consortium joins a different expertices from three ETB participating regions (Navarra, Basque Country and Germany). The multidisciplinar group of partners include Materials Research Centers of Navarra (AIN and Lurederra) and German Fraunhofer to develop a nano drug delivery system with tumor targetting features. Besides three SME complement the consortium. Idifarma (Navarra), Praxis Pharma (Basque Country) and EPO-Berlin (Germany) will provide their large expertise in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological field and their capacity to develop drug formulations, Pilot-Scale GMP manufacturing, DMPK and in vitro and in vivo tests during the development in preclinical stages. The new materials would represent new alternatives in the cancer treatment in specific niches (treatment of high perfusion organs and deep tissues) representing new business opportunities for the industrial partners and innovative high tech solutions that European society need to increase their market opportunities and competence with the big actors in the biotechnological fields.
