Project: Whey protein based barrier coatings with enhanced thermoformability and agglomerated formulations for a range of packaging applications
There is a growing need and significant market opportunity for more sustainable packaging solutions. The ThermoWhey project targets the manufacturing of whey protein based barrier coatings with enhanced thermoformability as well as agglomerated whey protein based coating formulations for a range of sensitive food packaging applications. As such, after completion of the required further research, the participating SMEs will be involved in setting up or supporting the up-scaling for the manufacturing capacity required for full scale production from the whey powder to the final packaging, optimizing the production processes throughout the supply and value chain, with a significant emphasis on the adjustment of the coating and thermoforming machines for different targeted applications and needs. The resulting packaging will be tested in terms of their application in the food sector.
