Project: Development of new manufacturing process chain for implantable sensors, based on new printable inks and micro injection moulding encapsulation for intra ocular pressure monitoring
SINKμLAR focuses on the integration of a miniaturized intraocular pressure sensor and the associated communication system for extracting and processing the signal into an implantable intraocular lens (IOL). To this purpose the combination of printed electronics and the subsequent overmoulding (by means of casting or micro injection moulding techniques) process is proposed. Printed electronic techniques allow the integration of the electronic functionalities into a flexible substrate. Then the direct overmoulding of the flexible electronics during manufacturing of the IOL gives to the final product with embedded electronic functionality. Unlike the conventional tonometers used for the measurement of the IOP, the new device provides a continuous register, which is especially relevant for the control of the glaucoma disease.
