Project: Automatic Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection System
Acronym | AUTOFPI (Reference Number: MNET17/ADMA-1246) |
Duration | 01/03/2018 - 29/02/2020 |
Project Topic | Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) is a nondestructive test method used in manufacturing for detecting porosity, cracks, fractures, laps, seams and other flaws of the test piece, caused by fatigue, impact, quenching, machining, grinding, forging, bursts, shrinkage or overload. The project envisions to develop and test AUTOFPI, a vision-based expert system for automating the last operations of the FPI process. The system, tailored on the stringent requirements of a high volume aerospace test case, consists of a robot for part handling, a machine vision solution for detecting the defects, and intelligent software allowing real time image processing and highly reliable decision making. AUTOFPI will increase the speed and the repeatability of the FPI, generating important cost savings and ultimately enhancing the overall quality of the process. |
