On 01.01.1999, the State Office for the Environment and Nature (LAUN) and the Geological State Office (GLA) were merged to form the State Agency for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Geology (LUNG). The tasks and responsibilities of the two specialist authorities in the area of the Ministry of the Environment, which have existed since 1991, were transferred to the LUNG.
